CPD’s model for change draws from the successful base-building and policy advocacy of Make the Road New York (MRNY), a membership-based organization of more than 10,000 low-income, primarily immigrant New Yorkers with dynamic community centers in Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island and Long Island. Since 1997, MRNY has become one of the most effective forces for racial and economic justice in New York City and State. MRNY campaign victories have catalyzed public investments of over $500 million for low-income communities of color and fundamentally altered the legislative landscape in New York City and State on issues as broad-ranging as wage theft, immigration, school safety and health access.
