Proper training also enhances the productivity of the employees and also the effectiveness with which they work. Most organizations employ training managers for training their employees. These training managers are experts and understand all the needs of the organization and train the employees accordingly.

A training manager is a specialist who supervises and conducts training of employees. This is done to ensure that the employees gain all the necessary skills that are important for the working of an organization. Training manager in an organization typically performs the following functions:

  • These managers are also responsible for ensuring that they keep up to date with the latest technology so that the best material can be used for training.
  • He enables trainees to improve their work skills.
  • He is also responsible for evaluating the effectives of the training sessions so that improvements could be made if possible.
When a person wants to work as a training manager, he needs to have a degree or a diploma in business, information technology, psychology, or human resources. Experience counts a lot to become a training manager. Teaching experience in the related field can be great. The person who wants to become a training manager must have good interpersonal skills so that he can motivate others. The person must also possess good communication skills, both verbal and written so that he can communicate effectively with others. In addition, the person needs to have good negotiation skills as well as problem solving abilities so that the employees could be trained in a proper manner. The person aspiring to become a training manager also needs to have leadership qualities as well as planning capabilities. Other skills that a person needs to include are good organizational skills and presentation skills.

Organizations that employ training managers require them to go through a training process so that they can develop the necessary skills for performing effectively in their job. Most organizations offer on the job training. Those organizations that do not provide on the job training require the training managers to take a short course from an outside training institution. In addition practical training is also necessary for anyone who wants to pursue this as a career.

There are many organizations that employ people who have just completed the course required to become a training manager. However, those with prior work experience are always preferred.

The working conditions for training managers are favorable. They generally have to work in offices or within the organization. They rarely have to do any field work. The jobs of these managers have fixed timings and in very few instances do they have to work for extra time. Those working as training managers get $40,000-$50,000 annually on average. The salary package also includes a number of fringe benefits. Those working well in organizations may even be promoted to higher levels. There are several opportunities for these managers.

Depending upon the organization and the nature of work, the training requirements may vary. Training managers may employ many training methods that include on the job training, apprenticeship training, training through role reversal, electronic training, and classroom training.
